PROCESS

A layer of fiberglass material is sandwiched between 2 layers of thermoset polyester resin and extruded into flat sheets. The sheets are pressed into final form by heated 2-piece molds.

RAW MATERIALS

Usually thermoset sheets.

TOOLING

Machined steel is typical.

COST

Both tooling & parts high.

ADVANTAGES

Creates very tough parts which can be subjected to high impacts.

DISADVANTAGES

Costly; limited to large parts. Slow cycles.
